Mentorship – Don’t let this ship sail without you

As an entrepreneur, we often find ourselves working in our business instead of working on our business. Why so?

We might lose direction, focus, have too many outside influences that take our concentration off of our business, or simply get lazy. There are a lot of resources out there for you to regain your focus and get back into your business.

I have recently starting working with a mentor. I prefer the word mentor to the word coach. It could simply be symantics but it produces a different vision in my mind. My mentor has already called me on several issues that I knew I was doing but hey – why change? Gee, maybe to treat my business as a business?

If you are struggling with boundaries, building your business, procrastination, or struggling with challenges, I strongly recommend you check out working with a mentor. You might check out Denise Michaels at Real Women – Real Business – Real Success.

Denise is my mentor and I have gained a lot of insight in a short period of time. If you want foo-foo or hand-holding – don’t bother. Denise is straightforward and extremely insightful. Did I tell you she tells you as it is and is a lot of fun?

If you are serious about your business, check her out.

Education and the Professional

I am the AssistU laision for the International Association of Administrative Professionals. As the Colorado Wyoming Montana Division President Elect, I have strong desires to see both of these organizations united in educating administrative professionals.

In doing some research, I find that often administrative professionals say, “I am just the secretary” and other denegrating comments.

First, let me say – I never wanted to be a secretary. I fell into the profession by way of divorce and business training. So, I have taken the next step for me and became a Virtual Assistant. This profession allows me to take my business degrees into the world of entreprenuership.

What bothers me is the lack of education, pride, and support that many companies neglect to offer their administrative professionals. This is reflected in administrative professionals’ attitudes toward joining organizations, furthering their education, and generally having pride in their skills and talents.
